After Life Euthanasia Device

There are many perspectives and beliefs about what happens after a individual’s death. While Religious concept of heaven or reincarnation can offer great comfort and reassurance, science and technology have started to undermine these traditional belief systems as we strive to find logic and meaning in our existence.

Afterlife project proposed to exploit our chemical potential after our biological death by transforming them into a dry cell battery. By doing so, the battery has become a container of a human life which can refer to a coffin but meanwhile has a functionality of powering electronic devices.

Where to put a afterlife battery is extremely personal and emotional choice. Using the energy from one to help the other to commit suicide, Dunne and Raby’s way of utilizing the battery is poignant meanwhile poetic.

Here, the euthanasia device can no longer be seen as a traditional optimum-performance driven design but rather a post-optimal object that turn the attention toward more fundamental philosophical issues, leading us to re-think about our own perspective toward death and relationship with our love ones.
